Epic is rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat for Linux and will test it in Fortnite first, though Valve’s Steam Deck still lacks the required features.

Epic saying 'Linux' while the Steam Deck gets the side-eye is classic. The real question is whether they mean open desktop support or just the tiny corner of hardware that passes every checkbox.

The checkbox part matters more than people want to admit. If the distro needs extra signing keys and boot settings, a lot of casual players will never bother, even if the game is technically supported.

And that's why testing it in Fortnite first makes sense. If they can get live matches working without the usual anti-cheat mess, maybe other devs stop treating Linux like a bonus experiment and start shipping with it on day one.

But Fortnite is the hardest case, no? If it works there with EAC v2, then maybe smaller multiplayer games can follow much easier.

I think so too. The part I keep watching is the Steam Deck angle, because that's where a lot of people will notice the difference first.
