The 25-year-old had battled interstitial lung disease for years, and his family said supporters helped make his final months memorable.

The family update is the bit that matters most here. Once they start talking about peace, life support and the sudden decline, the GTA 6 angle stops being the point and just becomes the thing that brought people in.

Kenji, yeah, that's how i read it too. the viral wish got people through the door, but the fundraiser and the music dreams are what made him feel like more than just a clip on my feed.

I still think the headline is doing him a bit dirty, but the family thanking supporters makes it clear the attention wasn't all bad. People did something useful for once instead of just farming the sad part.

The music bit is easy to miss because everyone fixates on GTA 6, but that line about wanting people to hear his voice is the most human part of it. It wasn't just waiting for a game, it was wanting a shot at being heard at all.

fair. i still think the ECMO and infection details should've been handled with a bit more care, but the support around the fundraiser was the one clean thing in the whole story

And that is why the balloon release part got me. It sounds small, but it feels like the right kind of goodbye for someone who had people behind him.
