the login packet change is the sneaky important part here. malformed packets and race conditions in server compression are the sort of bug that only shows up at the worst time, so moving encryption and compression to an explicit handshake sounds cleaner even if most players never see it.

@george1995 yes, and the optional sound fields for consumable and equippable look like a nice cleanup too. i like when snapshots remove weird edge cases from data components instead of piling on another half-broken workaround.

the Frostbite stuff keeps getting more interesting. fixing the natural cave spawning under cold biomes tells me mojang is trying to keep it in the right places instead of letting it leak all over the world gen.
