The queue window change is the real story here, not the end date. Once a mode starts needing time slots to keep matchmaking sane, Riot has already accepted that it is more of a niche event than a permanent playlist.

I think that's fair, but the custom games staying open in every region softens it a lot. If anything, the mode becomes a place to scrim old setups or run nostalgia games with friends instead of a full-time ladder.

The single free Battle Pass track is the best part to me. At least they are not dragging the mode through two or three reward tracks right before it gets put away again.

That and the trimmed store make sense together. Riot seems to be cleaning up all the extra systems so Classic can survive as a smaller side mode instead of pretending it still has main-mode energy.

yeah, and the new old champs still coming through 26.23 means they are not just pulling the plug overnight. it feels like a controlled exit, not a panic stop.
