Supercell has launched Cosmic Curse: Portal Panic in Clash of Clans, a month-long Clash-O-Ween season running from October 1 to 31 that adds a new temporary troop, new equipment, seasonal skins, and a stack of time-limited events. The update leans heavily into the game’s Halloween theme, but this year’s twist is a portal-driven season built around temporary troops and a new Epic Equipment item for the Minion Prince.
The October lineup matters because it gives players a lot more to chase than a standard seasonal pass. Alongside the Gold Pass rewards, Supercell is layering in battle events, Clan War League, challenge levels, boosts, and a community event that can unlock extra rewards if enough players keep their streaks going. For players who enjoy progression pressure during seasonal windows, this is one of the busiest October schedules Clash of Clans has announced in some time.
Portal Panic begins with the Totem Thrower
Supercell says the season runs across the village from October 1 to 31, with the first major addition being the all-new temporary troop, the Totem Thrower. The unit is designed as a ranged attacker with a destructive gimmick: it fights from a distance, then periodically swaps its rock throw for a cursed totem that can stun nearby defenses and create a decoy target.
According to Supercell, the Totem Thrower has a high damage output at 6 tiles of range and can target anything on the ground. Its first attack and every fourth attack after that throws a totem instead of a rock. That totem stuns nearby defenses and summons a Tiny Totem where it lands.
The Tiny Totem is meant to function as a disposable front line distraction. Supercell describes it as stationary and tanky, able to soak hits for an army before crumbling away on its own. It can be targeted by both air and ground defenses, and it also loses health passively over time, so it will eventually self-destruct even if it is left alone.
Supercell’s announcement sums up the season’s tone with the line:
“Two worlds. One book. Infinite portals.”
Gold Pass, skins and scenery
The Gold Pass is part of the October 1 to 31 rollout, offering rewards and progress boosts plus the season’s exclusive Hero Skin: Shroud Queen. Supercell also notes that Ghost Champion is this month’s alternate skin option.
Beyond the pass rewards, the season brings several cosmetic releases tied to the same portal storyline. On October 3, the Cosmic Portals XL Scenery arrives, described by Supercell as a twisted village caught between scrambled dimensions and built by irresponsible Goblins. More skins follow throughout the month, including Savage King on October 5, Nasty Prince on October 7, Terror Champion on October 9, Behemoth Duke on October 11, and Spider Warden on October 13.
Supercell also says the Cosmic Curse 2025 Cosmetics from last year will return on October 15 for players who missed them the first time. That gives the season both fresh and returning cosmetic options, which should be appealing to collectors as well as players who want to match their villages and heroes to the Halloween theme.
Events, boosts and the new Portal Pendant
The most important gameplay rewards arrive through a string of events spread across the month. The season begins with Battle Options, The First Curse from October 1 to 5, which lets Town Hall 6 and up choose between Clash-O-Ween temporary troops or resources during attacks. A second version, Battle Options, The Second Curse, runs October 17 to 21 and lets Town Hall 6 and up choose between temporary troops or Sour Elixir.
One of the central progression tracks is the Portal Panic Medal Event, scheduled for October 8 to 25. In Supercell’s description, Sour Elixir portals have mashed up worlds, and players help Builder Imp get home by collecting Sour Elixir in battles to fill his Sour Elixir Fountain. That unlocks rewards, temporary troops, and Rift Medals, which can be spent in the Trader Shop on the new Portal Pendant Equipment. The event is available to Town Hall 6 and up, and the Trader Shop remains open through October 27.
The Portal Pendant itself is also getting a short-term power spike. From October 20 to 25, Supercell says the new Epic Equipment for the Minion Prince will be boosted to its maximum level for five days before the Medal Event ends. That should make the equipment easier to try during the most active part of the event cycle.
Other dated activities include:
- October Clan War League from October 1 to 11, with 15v15 or 30v30 wars against seven other Clans.
- October Challenge Level: Portal Challenge from October 6 to 13, open to every Town Hall and featuring the new Portal Pendant Equipment and seasonal temporary troops.
- Totem Thrower Mass Troop Event on October 7 to 8, offering 50 Totem Throwers free of charge for Town Hall 10 and up.
- Treasure Hunt Event from October 10 to 17 for Town Hall 3 and up.
- Resource Collector Boosts from October 12 to 14 and again from October 26 to 28, both giving 4x production to Town Hall 8 and up.
- October Clan Games from October 22 to 28 for clan task rewards.
Supercell is also extending the month with a Cosmic Streak Community Event. It begins with a countdown on October 15, then runs from October 16 to 31, asking players to attack a base at least once a day for seven straight days. The streak can be completed in Home Village or Builder Base, and finishing it awards rewards capped by an exclusive base decoration. Supercell says there is also a community-wide goal: if participation targets are met, everyone who completes the streak will unlock something extra. Players must claim their rewards by November 1.
There is one more wrinkle in the announcement, though Supercell flags it as unconfirmed. The company says,
“There’s a rumor drifting through the portals that if enough Chiefs keep their streaks alive, Star Bonus might start seeing double. Unconfirmed. Suspicious. Worth finding out…”
With multiple skins, a new temporary troop, a fresh Epic Equipment item, and a dense calendar of events, Cosmic Curse: Portal Panic is built to keep October packed for active players. Supercell closes its announcement with a warning that the portals are not closing themselves, and for Clash of Clans players, that means the Halloween season will be busy from the first day of the month through the final weekend.
another pass grind, same old trap
The trap is already set and it wants your Sour Elixir. At this point Supercell should just rename October to Currency O’Clock.
my builder already quit
supercell: yes
Portal Pendant being maxed for five days feels pretty generous for once.
Only if you can actually get enough medals to buy it. A temp max level is nice, but the event still wants a lot of active play.
still better than nothing
yeah lol exactly
Totem Thrower sounds busted on defence cleanup
Depends on the base, I think
Yeah, but a ranged troop that stuns and leaves a tanky decoy is exactly the kind of nuisance that makes hits messy. Even if the Tiny Totem melts later, it can buy real time for a kill squad or drag fire away from the push. That kind of utility usually overperforms in live attacks.
Gold pass looks skippable
What makes you say that – the Shroud Queen, or just the whole October path? The event calendar is packed, so I’m curious if you think the value is actually lower this time.
too much filler
pass has the skin though
kinda fair, but the alternate Ghost Champion and the scenery on the 3rd are decent if you care about cosmetics
Does the streak event sound worth it if you only log in a few minutes a day? Seven straight days is a bit much for casual players.
The temporary troop events are the only part that looks fun. Everything else is just another reward treadmill.
I get the reward fatigue, but the challenge level and the Totem Thrower event are the kind of quick wins casuals can actually touch. The bigger issue is not the amount of stuff, it’s that Supercell keeps stacking events with different currencies and timers, so it feels busier than it needs to. If they had made the whole month one clean track, people would complain less. Right now it is more like five mini systems fighting each other for attention.
