Spirit beat Falcons 2-0 at the Spodek on Friday to reach the semi-finals, with Andrey “tN1R” Tatarinovich and Danil “donk” Kryshkovets both delivering highlight-heavy maps in the sweep. Spirit won Mirage 13-8 and Anubis 13-10, and the result sends them into a rematch with MOUZ after the teams already met in the event’s 2-0 pool.
That path matters because Spirit had come through the group stage looking uneven, but they looked far more settled once they reached the arena. Their win over Falcons also comes after a loss to MOUZ in the 2-0 pool and another defeat to 1win in the 2-1 pool, so this run gives them a chance to answer both the earlier setback and the questions raised by the shaky opening phase. On this stage, though, Spirit looked far closer to the side that had been expected to contend from the start.
Spirit’s Mirage plan shuts down Falcons
Mirage was controlled by Spirit almost from the first gun round. HLTV said the team came in with a clear plan to attack Falcons’ tendency to leave Window and Jungle empty in mid-rounds, and tN1R made constant use of those gaps to get behind the defense. He opened with an early 1v2 to put Spirit on the board, then added an ace only three rounds later as Falcons struggled to stop his movement through the map.
Falcons had the pistol and the conversion, but that brief start was nearly all they managed in the first half. Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov produced a hero AWP ace for Falcons’ only other round before the break, and even that did not stop Spirit from keeping control of the map. tN1R and Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov then finished the half with a 2v4 that added more pressure to Falcons’ defense.
Spirit kept the pace after the switch. A pistol win let them race to map point, and while Falcons eventually strung together their first rounds since the opening pistol, the recovery came too late. The deficit had already grown to 12-3 before the comeback started, and Spirit closed the opener without ever looking in danger. tN1R finished Mirage with a 2.06 rating, a number that matched how cleanly he controlled the map.
What stood out on Mirage was not just the individual impact but the way Spirit turned Falcons’ default positioning against them. The Russian side repeatedly found room behind the defense, denied Falcons the chance to reset the round on their own terms, and used early picks and late-round pressure to force mistakes. By the time Falcons were finally collecting rounds, Spirit had already built a cushion that made the finish straightforward.
donk erupts on Anubis after a quieter opening map
Spirit started Anubis with the same kind of momentum, winning the pistol again and moving to a 3-0 lead. Falcons briefly threatened to let the map slip away early when kyousuke rescued a 4v2 in Falcons’ first gun round with a 1v2, and that round helped his team avoid a much deeper hole. Falcons then found more life through multi-kill rounds from kyousuke and m0NESY, while Finn “karrigan” Andersen added a triple in a 3v5 against pistols as they battled back to level the score.
That comeback was undone by donk. After taking more of a backseat on Mirage while tN1R carried the load, the Spirit star completely took over Anubis. He started with an absurd hero AK-47 ace that ripped through Falcons and shifted the map back in Spirit’s favor, then added another triple at the end of the half to give his side a slim lead going into the break.
He was not finished there. Spirit’s force-buy after the swap was broken by a back-breaking MP7 triple from donk, and from that point on he kept producing the kind of rounds that make it hard for Falcons to build any real momentum. Boris “magixx” Vorobiev was also putting up numbers, but donk kept stealing the focus with a string of highlight plays that included another clinical 3k as Spirit moved to match point.
Falcons tried to stay in it with clutches from Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and karrigan, and those moments briefly delayed the finish, but the map never fully swung back their way. Spirit had the lead, the better spacing and the more explosive star power, and they used all three to close Anubis 13-10 and finish the sweep.
Spirit get a rematch with MOUZ
The semi-final now brings Spirit back against MOUZ, who beat them in the 2-0 pool earlier in the event. Spirit will also remember the loss to 1win that followed, because those results were the low point of a tournament that has since started to tilt back in their favor. This meeting gives them a direct chance to erase one of the defeats that shaped the earlier stage.
For Spirit, the encouraging part is how different they looked once the pressure of the arena replaced the uncertainty of the group stage. Against Falcons, they had a map where preparation and structure did the work in Mirage, then another where raw firepower decided the outcome in Anubis. tN1R controlled the first half of the series, donk owned the second, and Spirit got contributions from sh1ro and magixx as well.
Falcons, meanwhile, spent much of the series reacting instead of dictating terms. They had small flashes from m0NESY, kyousuke, NiKo and karrigan, but those moments were not enough to overcome the damage done by Spirit’s early map control and late-round conversion. The result leaves Spirit one win away from another title shot, with MOUZ waiting in a matchup that already has history from earlier in the event.
Map results
- Mirage: Spirit 13-8 Falcons
- Anubis: Spirit 13-10 Falcons
GAMER2GO recently spoke with torzsi about MOUZ’s earlier Spirit win.
Spirit finally looked like Spirit
That tN1R 2.06 on Mirage was filthy. Falcons kept leaving Window and Jungle open and he just farmed the gaps all half.
You think they can keep this up vs MOUZ?
“finally” is doing a lot of work there. they still had that messy 2-0 pool loss to MOUZ and got clipped by 1win too, so i’m not buying the full comeback story yet. one clean arena series doesn’t erase the wobble, it just makes the rematch less free for MOUZ.
donk waking up on Anubis was the series.
