Blizzard has posted upcoming class tuning for World of Warcraft, and the clearest change is a nerf to Unholy Death Knight arriving with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6 in this region. The same update buffs Mistweaver Monk and several other specs, while also revising a long list of PvP talents across tanks, healers, casters, and melee classes.
The tuning is part of a broader October balance push. GAMER2GO reported on the October 1 hotfix pass that adjusted a wide spread of classes, and this new update keeps that pace going with targeted changes for raid performance, dungeon durability, and PvP talent use.
Unholy Death Knight loses the extra Blightfall damage
Unholy’s change comes from a bug fix that inflated Blightfall damage. Blizzard said a recent fix caused Blightfall to deal “significantly more damage than we expected,” and the tuning now pulls that back while correcting how the damage is recorded when an Augmentation Evoker is in the group.
Blightfall now deals 100% of the remaining plague damage, down from 200%. Blizzard also resolved an issue that caused Augmentation Evoker Reattribution damage from plague erupt effects to be attributed to the Death Knight.
That leaves the Unholy update with two parts: a straight damage reduction and a damage attribution fix. Blizzard specifically said it wants the damage represented accurately when an Augmentation Evoker is present, so the change is as much about clean reporting as it is about power tuning.
Mistweaver, Brewmaster, Devourer, Trickster, and Enhancement all move up
Several PvE specs are getting buffs in the same pass. Mistweaver Monk is being tuned for raid content, with Blizzard saying the goal is to raise its overall performance there.
- Invigorating Mists healing increased by 15%.
- Enveloping Mist healing increased by 15%, but not in PvP combat.
- Brewmaster’s Quick Sip now purifies 8% of current Stagger amount each time you gain 3 seconds of Stagger duration, up from 5%.
- Pretense of Instability now grants 10% dodge for 8 seconds after drinking a Brew, up from 5 seconds.
- Devourer Demon Hunter’s Consume/Devour, Reap/Cull, Eradicate, and Collapsing Star each gain 8% damage.
- The Hunt initial damage and Voidblade damage each rise by 10%.
- Subtlety Rogue’s Trickster build gets stronger Fazed, Unseen Blade, and Coup de Grace damage.
- Enhancement Shaman’s all ability and auto-attack damage rises by 4%, while Lava Lash damage increases by 35%.
Blizzard said Devourer’s single-target damage sources are being buffed to bring their output closer to what it expected. For Enhancement, the studio said the spec has underperformed this season and that Lava Lash should take a larger share of its total damage.
Trickster is being buffed to narrow the gap with Deathstalker. Fazed now causes enemies to take 7% more damage, up from 5%, while Unseen Blade damage rises by 15% and Coup de Grace damage by 10%. Blizzard said the aim is to make Trickster a more viable option for players who prefer its gameplay and thematic identity.
PvP talents get a wide pass across tanks, healers, and casters
The second half of the update focuses on PvP, where Blizzard said it is boosting underperforming talents to widen player options. A large part of that work goes to tank specializations and their Focused Assault talents, including Death Knight’s Murderous Intent, Demon Hunter’s Tormentor, Druid’s Alpha Challenge, Monk’s Admonishment, Paladin’s Inquisition, and Warrior’s Oppressor.
Focused Assault now stacks to 6 times instead of 5, lasts 10 seconds instead of 6, has a 15-second cooldown instead of 20, and reaches 15 yards instead of 10. Blizzard also reduced Dark Simulacrum’s PvP cooldown to 15 seconds from 20.
- Death Chain now affects 4 targets instead of 3 and its initial damage rises by 500%.
- Price of Progress now prevents slows above 100% normal speed instead of 90%, and now sacrifices 1% health every 1.5 seconds instead of every second.
- Death’s Cold Embrace now increases Remorseless Winter damage by 450%, up from 400%.
- Cover of Darkness extends Darkness by 4 seconds instead of 2.
- Illidan’s Grasp damage rises by 50% for both Havoc and Vengeance.
- Moon and Stars now has a 60% larger radius and appears as important on player nameplates.
- Tireless Pursuit now lasts 6 seconds instead of 3.
- Hunting Pack’s radius increases to 40 yards from 30.
- Dire Beast: Hawk damage rises by 200%.
- World in Flames now empowers Flamestrike to deal up to 75% more damage, up from 50%.
- Glass Cannon now increases Fireball, Scorch, and Ignite damage by 25%, up from 20%.
- Frost Bomb damage rises by 25% and Icy Feet now grants snare immunity for 4 seconds instead of 3.
- Mighty Ox Kick’s cooldown drops to 20 seconds from 30.
- Healing Sphere can now have up to 5 active at once instead of 3, and its healing is doubled.
- Perpetual Paralysis now spreads to 3 targets instead of 2, prefers player targets, and reaches 15 yards instead of 10.
- Spellbreaker damage rises by 50%.
- Ultimate Retribution now lasts 20 seconds instead of 12.
- Absolute Faith absorption increases by 113%.
- Improved Mass Dispel now reduces Mass Dispel’s cooldown by 75 seconds instead of 60.
- Thick as Thieves now lasts 10 seconds instead of 6.
- Death from Above now increases damage by 30%, up from 15%.
- Outlaw Rogue’s damage rises by 5% in PvP combat.
- Electrocute damage rises by 50% and becomes a rolling periodic effect.
- Earth Shield healing rises by 15% in PvP combat, while Earthen Harmony now reduces damage taken by 8% instead of 5% and increases Earth Shield healing received by 200% based on missing health instead of 150%.
- Call of Al’Akir now increases the cooldown of Nature’s Swiftness by 20 seconds instead of 30.
- Bonds of Fel damage rises by 100%.
- Bloodstone now lasts 18 seconds instead of 12 and has a unique visual and updated sound effect.
- Call Fel Lord’s Fel Cleave damage rises by 150%.
- Dragon Charge damage rises by 300%.
Blizzard also increased the effectiveness of Restoration Shaman’s Earth Shield because it felt too weak in both placing the shield and managing it during fights. The studio said it wants those decisions to matter more for both the Shaman and their opponent.
The update lands with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6 in this region.
Earlier in the month, Blizzard already moved on class balance with hotfixes, and this pass continues that cadence with a larger mix of buffs and nerfs. The full set of changes is split between PvE tuning for specs that need help in raid and dungeon play, and PvP tuning aimed at talents that had fallen behind.
Unholy Death Knight is the only spec taking a direct nerf in the headline changes, but the patch also corrects the Augmentation Evoker interaction around plague erupt damage. Mistweaver, Brewmaster, Devourer, Trickster Subtlety, and Enhancement all gain power, while PvP classes from Death Knight to Warrior receive a wide spread of talent adjustments.
Blightfall got nerfed into the floor lol
That 4% Enhancement bump feels like the real headline to me, honestly. Lava Lash getting 35% is the kind of weird number that makes me wonder what the sim graphs looked like.
PvP talents got the real buffet here. Half those buffs look like they were pulled straight from the oubliette of forgotten buttons.
Yeah, and Focused Assault getting 6 stacks, longer duration, shorter cooldown, and more range is Blizzard basically admitting the old version was a cardboard cutout. I do like that they are touching a lot of tank PvP talents instead of leaving one spec to rot, but some of these buffs feel like they were designed by someone trying to win a spreadsheet duel. If half of these still never get picked, we will know the problem was deeper than a few % points.
death chain is actually scary tho
Death Chain going to 4 targets and 500% initial damage is a bit wild. Blizzard really looked at that talent and chose violence.
Or they looked at how often nobody takes it and tried to make it matter. Big number alone doesn’t mean busted if the talent was dead before.
Aug evoker damage attribution is the part I care about here. That kind of hidden overlap has been messing with logs for a while.
