Blizzard Entertainment will open the Talebound demo on the Player Test Realm (PTR) on October 30. The demo includes the Red Hollow introduction, three tales on Normal, Veteran, and Heroic difficulties, and all three available classes: Slayer, Inquisitor, and Witch. No subscription is required to take part.

Blizzard says the demo is meant to give players a first look at Talebound’s story-driven format while the team continues testing. Several talents are still in progress, and the company says fine-tuning is ongoing.

Red Hollow begins the journey through Quillgrave

The demo starts with Red Hollow, which introduces Quillgrave and a lone traveler on a darkened road. There, a mysterious storyteller pulls the player into a world of his own creation. Blizzard describes this as the beginning of the adventure in Talebound’s dark chronicles.

Players can go through the demo solo or with friends. Blizzard says the tales are built around combat, puzzles, and rewards, with treasure and relics hidden deeper inside each scenario. The three featured tales are Darkhaven, Greenthistle Wood, and Greywake’s Expedition.

Darkhaven is home to Konrad von Sonnesheim, the Lord Marshal, and Alexandre Dozsenc, the Blood Bishop. Blizzard says the settlement is cut off from the rest of the world and is the only place that survived a devastating plague that wiped out everyone beyond its borders.

Greenthistle Wood contains two humble villages, Shady Hollow and Riverton, according to the announcement. Blizzard says the woods are overrun by two witches, a giant, and a host of predatory fiends that have filled the area with cruelty and mayhem.

Greywake’s Hill was once a thriving and prosperous island, but something sinister has happened there. Blizzard says the tale follows the many who have fallen to Zzyg’th, the Hadal Tyrant, and Chathoa, the Herald from Beyond.

Shared movement tools, different combat styles

Blizzard says Talebound’s classes all emphasize movement and defense. Each one can double jump, dodge, and guard, making positioning a major part of combat. The shared movement kit gives every class the same core tools, but their attacks and fantasy differ sharply.

The Slayer relies on martial skill, monster-hunting knowledge, a sword, and a gun. Blizzard presents the class as a close-range fighter that can also pressure enemies from a distance. Its abilities include Slash, Explosive Shot, Minefield, Shrapnel Round, Throwing Knives, and Silver Bolt.

Slash is a three-hit sequence that damages enemies directly in front of the Slayer, with the final blow dealing higher damage and stunning. Explosive Shot fires a shotgun blast at enemies in front, and closer targets take damage from multiple shots. Minefield lets the Slayer leap backward and throw mines in an arc, dealing damage and slowing enemies. Shrapnel Round fires several rounds that bounce between foes, while Throwing Knives lets the player move quickly and strike nearby enemies, canceling other attacks for fast repositioning. Silver Bolt sends the Slayer into the air to drive a silver bolt into the foe with the highest health in range.

The Inquisitor uses holy force to punish enemies and keep pressure on the field. Blizzard says the class burns away evil even when it hides behind illusions. Purify is a three-attack sequence that grows stronger with each strike. Condemn deals holy damage and slows enemies, and Blizzard notes that it can be cast while moving. Denounce becomes more powerful the longer the player stands still and forces enemies to confess. Light’s Wrath summons a wrathful sun above a target, Rapture wreathes enemies in flames that can be detonated on command, and Radiant Burst can also be cast while moving, firing explosive heat at a nearby target.

The Witch uses lightning, poison, spiders, moonlight, thorns, and ravens to overwhelm enemies. Brewing Storm is a three-hit lightning sequence with a stronger final strike. Bubbling Cauldron summons frogs from a cauldron, and those frogs leap to random enemies before exploding in poisonous damage. Feline Communion turns the Witch into a cat for a short time; in that form, stars rain down on nearby enemies, and Crooked Path lets the player blink forward through moonlight. Winter Spiders summons a swarm that moves ahead with a brood mother that explodes for heavy area damage. Moonlight Ravens is a channeled spell that can be used while moving to send a flock of ravens after nearby targets, and Thorns makes spikes erupt beneath the two nearest enemies.

What Blizzard says to expect from the PTR build

Blizzard says the Talebound demo is a PTR test build, so the content may still change before it is finalized. The company says several talents remain in progress, and the current build is still being adjusted. Players who try the demo on October 30 will be testing an unfinished version of the mode and can share feedback during the process.

The demo’s structure is straightforward: Red Hollow opens the story, three tales are available, each tale has Normal, Veteran, and Heroic options, and players can try Slayer, Inquisitor, or Witch without a subscription. Blizzard is using the PTR to show the mode’s combat, storytelling, and class design while development continues.

Talebound’s demo is scheduled for October 30 on the PTR.
