    The contract detail is the biggest thing here. If a roster has guys locked in long-term, that is a very different story from the usual region-hopping nonsense people try to pull before qualifiers.

    Yeah, and the Asia route makes more sense once asap is part of it. If moving back to Europe meant cutting him loose, Valve probably saw the roster as a real project instead of a placeholder lineup.

    I still think the exception process looks messy, though. The bigger issue is that the rule hit, the team got removed, and then everyone had to scramble to explain intent after the fact. That is not a great system if the goal is clarity for teams, TOs, or fans.
