The $80 base price is the part people keep trying to hand-wave away, but it matters when you are talking about launch records. Inflation makes the comparison fairer, sure, yet the current barrier is still a lot steeper for anyone who needs a new PS5 or Series X|S too.

And the $100 edition split says enough. Early buyers are always the ones most willing to get squeezed, so the headline revenue can look even crazier than the player count.

That is true, but I think the hardware cost is still the real filter here. A console upgrade is a harder sell than a pricier edition, which is why the launch may be massive yet uneven across platforms.
