The fifth Riftbound set closes the year with Deploy, Show Off and Disarm, plus K/DA, HEARTSTEEL and new starter decks.

Deploy looks like the most interesting keyword to me because it changes where you can even contest a lane, not just what you play into it. hidden card rules are already annoying to keep track of, so adding battlefield-linked gear could make games way more tactical or way more confusing depending on the wording. Either way, it feels closer to a real board-control game than some of the earlier stuff.

I think the confusion is part of the fun here, sadly. Riot always adds one mechanic that sounds like a rules test, and then people act surprised when the first weeks are a mess.

Show Off is the cleaner idea. reveal a high-cost card for the full effect, simple enough, but it also screams 'deckbuilding tax' if the best version always wants expensive cards.

That is a good point, but I think the starter decks matter here. If Evelynn and Seraphine are meant to teach the set, then Show Off probably needs to feel powerful even in a slower, prebuilt shell.

starter decks are nice, but the music collab is still doing a lot of the marketing heavy lifting. if the gameplay is solid, great, but Riot knows K/DA will get people to notice the set first.
