What stands out to me is the timing. If Paper Rex already gave him permission to speak with teams before free agency fully opens, that usually means there is some kind of clean break planned and they are avoiding awkward dead time. I would not read that as PRX being in panic mode, more like they are being professional after a successful split. The bigger question is whether he ends up as a true head coach or just another assistant on a stronger bench.

I lean the same way, but the JDG detail matters too. Coaches who have worked with strange compositions often get judged too harshly when the team does not win, yet that is exactly the sort of experience organizations want when the meta shifts and everyone is scared to try something different.

Yeah, but Paper Rex succeeding with him is the part that gives the resume weight. Lots of coaches can say they like theory; fewer can point to a Pacific title and two Masters finals while doing it.

The only caveat I would add is that assistant coaches rarely get the full credit or the full blame, so people should not pretend one departure changes everything. Still, if d4v41 is also exploring options, then PRX may be facing a real staff reset rather than a simple upgrade swap, and those are always messy even when the team has been winning.
