PCIFIC Esports in-game leader qpert, whose legal name is Johann Hernandez, said he is exploring his options for the 2027 Valorant season. He said he is looking for opportunities as an in-game leader in a Controller or flex role and is open to relocating to any region.

PCIFIC general coordinator Osman Kamış told VLR that the team’s partnership requirement keeps all five players and the head coach under contract through the end of the season. He also said no contracts have expired yet. qpert’s deal, like the rest of the PCIFIC roster’s, runs through the end of the 2026 season, so the announcement is about his plans after that point rather than an immediate departure.

PCIFIC’s roster is still under contract through 2026

The timing leaves PCIFIC with a roster that remains intact on paper for the rest of the current season. Kamış’s comments make clear that the club is not dealing with an open market situation right now, even though qpert has already laid out the kind of role he wants next.

That role matters in practical terms. qpert is not only searching for another team, but also narrowing the type of team he wants to join. He is targeting a leadership job and specifically wants to stay in a Controller or flex spot, which gives potential suitors a better idea of how he expects to fit into a lineup.

PCIFIC’s situation has been under scrutiny since the end of its season, and qpert’s statement adds another name to the list of players planning ahead. The roster has already seen several exits or potential exits, and the general direction points to a side that could look very different once the contracts expire.

A career that has moved through several roles and regions

qpert’s path to PCIFIC has included competing, coaching, and analysis work across multiple teams. He made his debut in 2020 during Valorant’s European First Strike era and has since played in Germany, Belgium, the United States, and Türkiye.

Midway through the 2022 season, he had a brief stint with The Guard as an assistant coach. Later that year, he also worked as an analyst for Team Liquid. Ahead of the 2023 season, he joined Cloud9 as the team’s sixth man before returning to competition the following season.

He later competed for Turkish side Digital Athletics and for SK Nebula in 2024 before joining Team Liquid Academy for the 2025 season. Those stops gave him a mix of tiered competition and support-side experience, which now sits alongside his run as PCIFIC’s in-game leader.

His willingness to relocate is part of that pattern. The report says he is happy to move to any region, which broadens the range of possible destinations if a team wants an experienced caller who can also cover Controller or flex duties.

What he achieved with Team Liquid Academy

Team Liquid Academy was the strongest recent step before PCIFIC. Across one full season with TLA, qpert reached VCL EMEA twice after top-two finishes in Challengers NORTH//EAST. He also became one of four players from that TLA roster to reach the VCT stage the following year, alongside d3mur, GSR, and PCIFIC teammate NINJA.

That progression helps explain why he is a known name in the European ecosystem. He moved from academy-level success to a VCT roster in a short span, and PCIFIC added him as part of a lineup built around players with Tier 2 experience.

PCIFIC’s promotion story is tied to another name as well. After ascending to VCT as BBL PCIFIC and seeing the full roster signed by BBL Esports, the organization later signed a new squad that included cNed, seven, al0rante, NINJA, qpert, and eventually waddle. That group represented a fresh attempt to stay competitive at the top level after the previous roster had moved on.

It did not pay off in results. The team finished the year winless and went 0-17 in all competitions. That record became one of the defining facts of PCIFIC’s season and left the squad looking for answers before the next cycle of roster movement began.

More exits have followed the winless season

Since the end of the season, PCIFIC has continued to see players and staff seek new options. al0rante, NINJA, and waddle have all been allowed to explore their options, while coaches thinkii and ZaeS have also been given the same opportunity. Those departures have increased uncertainty around the org’s future in Valorant.

qpert’s own situation is slightly different from those names because he is still under contract until the end of 2026, but his public stance points to what comes next. Once the current season ends, he expects to be available and is already signaling the kind of team he wants to join.

The combination of leadership experience, prior work as an analyst and assistant coach, and recent tournament play gives him a flexible profile. He has filled several roles over the last few years, and his latest message indicates that he is ready to do so again if the right opening appears after the 2026 season.

PCIFIC’s current structure keeps its roster together for now, but the club’s long-term picture will depend on how many of those contract-bound players stay once the season ends. qpert has now made his intentions clear in advance, giving prospective teams a head start on where he may fit in 2027.

calling 2027 options this early is smart. if you’re stuck on a team that just went 0-17, you might as well start shopping before everyone else does.

So basically the only role left is ‘can do anything, please save us’. Handy phrase for contract talks, less handy for actual teambuilding.

he’s under contract till end of 2026, so this is basically a heads-up for the offseason. PCIFIC keeps him for now, which is the part that matters.

True, but a public ‘exploring options’ still changes how teams and teammates think. once that is out, people start planning without you, even if the paper says 2026. for a caller, that matters because the next move is usually about trust and role fit, not just contract dates. I do think the Controller/flex part narrows it more than people realize.

Not really. A lot of players say any region when they want the widest shot at a job, especially after a rough year. qpert has actually done coaching, analysis, and stage play across a bunch of teams, so this looks more like a flexible market pitch than him running from one bad roster. The Controller or flex part is the real filter here.

I think the regional move is the bigger deal than the role. controller igl who can relocate gives teams a lot of options if they already have firepower.

the academy-to-VCT path matters more here than people are giving it credit for. that stuff still gets attention when orgs are filling out tier 2 rosters.

had the same thing with a former coach in one of my teams, weirdly enough. once people knew he could call and still play, he got way more offers than the flashy fraggers.

exactly, and that’s why the hybrid role matters. if he can still take controller duty, he is way easier to fit than some pure shotcaller who needs three stars around him.
