Report says GTA 6 could reach PC in early 2027, only months after consoles

GamesBeat says four unnamed industry sources point to a PC release within the first three months of 2027, far sooner than Rockstar’s usual wait.

A GamesBeat report claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch on PC sometime in the first three months of 2027. If that is correct, the PC version would arrive at most four months after the game’s first release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. GamesBeat says the information comes from four industry sources familiar with Rockstar’s plans, all of whom asked to remain anonymous. Rockstar has not commented on the claim.

The timeline would be short by Rockstar standards. Mainline Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption releases have usually taken far longer to reach PC, and the company has not announced a PC version of GTA 6. The report therefore cuts against the expectation that PC players will face a long wait after the console launch.

GamesBeat says the window is the first quarter of 2027

According to GamesBeat, the release window under discussion is the first three months of 2027. That would put the PC version on shelves soon after the console debut, depending on exactly when Rockstar ships the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S edition. The report does not give a specific PC date, only the quarter.

That detail matters because Rockstar has not confirmed a PC edition at all. So far, the only public signal is this report, plus the company’s silence. Take-Two also has not said whether a PC version is planned for that window.

PC Gamer said the claim was surprising and noted that it had previously expected GTA 6 to miss PC until November 2027. That earlier expectation was based on Rockstar’s usual release habits, which have often left a substantial gap between the console launch and the PC port.

The timing could come up again soon. Take-Two’s next quarterly financial report is scheduled for November 9, and the report suggests that could be a moment for more detail if the publisher chooses to address GTA 6’s release plans. Nothing in the material says it will, only that the date is a possible checkpoint.

Rockstar’s past PC release gaps have been much longer

PC Gamer laid out the gaps between several Rockstar console launches and their PC versions. The history is uneven, but it still points to waits that are usually longer than four months:

  • Grand Theft Auto 3: 7 months
  • Vice City: 7 months
  • San Andreas: 8 months
  • Bully: 2 years
  • GTA 4: 7 months
  • Red Dead Redemption: 14 years, 5 months
  • GTA 5: 1 year, 6 months
  • RDR2: 1 year

Against that list, a four-month break would be unusually quick. Even the shorter gaps for Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA 4 were longer than the reported GTA 6 window, while Bully, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, and RDR2 all took far longer to arrive on PC.

That is why the claim stands out. Rockstar has often treated the PC version as a later release, and the gaps between its major games have grown over the years. If GTA 6 lands on PC in early 2027, it would be one of the fastest turnarounds the studio has ever managed for a major title.

The report also frames the release as coming in the post-holiday period, when players are usually recovering from spending money during the end-of-year rush. A PC version in the first quarter of 2027 would arrive right after the holiday season and not long after the console launch, which makes the wait look short even before the calendar turns again.

Some players may decide to wait for PC

The prospect of a quick port could change buying plans. PC Gamer said some people on social media are already saying they would wait for the PC edition if the gap really is only a few months. The article also pointed to GTA 6’s $100 premium edition and the exclusive content it includes as a reason some buyers may be less willing to purchase the game more than once.

That reaction would not be new, but the timing would make it more immediate. Players who normally buy the console version first to avoid a long wait for PC might think differently if the PC release follows soon after. Others who prefer PC for its flexibility and performance could decide the console version is not worth the extra purchase if the wait is only temporary.

Rockstar has a history of benefiting from a double purchase cycle, but a narrow gap would narrow the time available for that strategy. If the report is right, some buyers could simply hold off until the PC version arrives instead of paying for both platforms. That could affect launch sales, though the material does not quantify by how much.

Earlier GAMER2GO coverage has already followed another PC-related question around the game: our report on Xbox saying GTA 6 would not stream to PC. That earlier story was about cloud access rather than a native release date, but it showed how much attention the PC version has drawn before any announcement from Rockstar.

The report from GamesBeat rests on anonymous sources, not on a company statement. That leaves the claim plausible but unconfirmed. Rockstar has not said anything publicly about a PC launch window, and the new timeline remains a report rather than a release date. Even so, the idea of GTA 6 reaching PC only four months after consoles is a sharp break from Rockstar’s usual pattern and the reason the story is getting so much attention.

If the report proves accurate, PC players would get an unusually short wait for one of the biggest games of the generation. If it does not, Rockstar’s long-standing habit of leaving the PC edition until later may still be the more realistic expectation. Either way, the company has not yet given players a formal answer.

Depends what you care about, mate. If you just want to play day one with your crew, console still makes sense, but if you can hold off a few months the PC version will probably look and run better. I’d never buy a Rockstar game twice unless the gap was huge.

Why would anyone treat a rumor like a contract? Rockstar hasn’t even said a PC version is planned, so the whole ‘just wait’ debate is built on anonymous sources and wishful thinking. If the console launch is the real first release, plenty of people will still buy in early and complain later like always.

A Q1 2027 PC drop would be wild. Rockstar usually leaves PC swinging in the wind for ages, so four months would basically be a speedrun by their standards.
