Valve has crowned Team Spirit the Grand Champions of The International 2026 after the team beat Team Vision in a five-game Grand Finals in Shanghai on August 27, 2026. The victory caps a turbulent run through the event and sends Team Spirit home with the Aegis of Champions after one of the tournament’s most demanding playoff paths.

For Dota 2 players, the result matters not just because it names a new champion, but because it confirms a dramatic bracket story: Team Spirit survived elimination play, battled through the Lower Bracket, and then outlasted the tournament’s front-runners in a final that went the distance. Valve’s recap presents the win as the payoff to a year in which the team had to rebuild momentum at exactly the right time.

Spirit’s road began with a strong group stage, then turned rocky

Valve said Team Spirit opened its group stage with two straight 2-0 wins, over Xtreme Gaming and Aurora Gaming, before beating Team Liquid 2-1 to move within one series win of qualifying for the main stage. That direct route never materialized. Instead, Valve said Spirit became a stepping stone for other teams, first losing 0-2 to Team Vision and then falling 0-2 to Nigma Galaxy, which forced Spirit into elimination play.

From there, the team had to survive a scrappier opponent in Team Resilience. Valve described Resilience as a squad that had taken at least one game in every series it played, and that pattern continued in the elimination round. Spirit took game one easily, but Resilience answered by forcing a deciding game three. Spirit then pulled away in the later stages of the match to secure a place at The International Main Event.

“Congratulations to Team Spirit, Grand Champions at The International 2026.”

Once in the arena, Spirit’s path remained crowded with familiar obstacles. The first was Iron Wing, a team Valve said had already taken series wins off three main-stage-bound squads in the group stage. Spirit nonetheless sent Iron Wing to the Lower Bracket and eventual elimination.

The next hurdle was Team Vision, the same opponent that had already shut the door on a cleaner route to the Playoffs. The rematch produced the same result in a tighter series: Spirit lost 1-2 and dropped into the Lower Bracket, where Team Liquid was waiting after eliminating last year’s champions. Valve noted that Liquid had only dropped one series in the groups, and that loss had come to Spirit earlier in the event. In the Lower Bracket, though, Spirit did not surrender a single game.

  • 2-0 over Xtreme Gaming
  • 2-0 over Aurora Gaming
  • 2-1 over Team Liquid in groups
  • 0-2 losses to Team Vision and Nigma Galaxy
  • Elimination-round win over Team Resilience
  • Playoff wins over Iron Wing and Team Liquid
  • 2-0 victories over BoomBoys and Team Yandex in the Lower Bracket

A lower-bracket surge ended with a tense final against Team Vision

Valve said Team Spirit’s run through the Lower Bracket began with a sweep of Team Liquid and continued with 2-0 wins over BoomBoys and Team Yandex. Those results set up the final with Team Vision, the same squad that had blocked Spirit at multiple points in the tournament and had not lost a series in Shanghai before the Grand Finals.

That set the stage for a rematch with enormous stakes. Team Spirit took game one, then appeared to be closing in on the title in game two before Team Vision rallied to even the series. Vision then looked poised to take game three, but Spirit held firm and moved back ahead 2-1, putting the team one win away from the Aegis. Vision answered again in game four, forcing a winner-take-all final game.

Valve said the deciding game was an hour-long showdown that “was still anyone’s game until the very end.” In the end, Spirit prevailed to claim the championship and finish the tournament as the team that finally solved Team Vision. The win gives Yatoro, Collapse, and Larl more company in Dota history, while not_me and rue join them as first-time International winners.

“After an hour-long showdown that was still anyone’s game until the very end, Team Spirit finally overcame the team that had tormented them throughout the tournament, claiming the Aegis of Champions”

Another title for familiar winners

Valve’s announcement also highlighted the individual resumes inside Team Spirit’s roster. Yatoro and Collapse are now three-time International winners, while Larl is a two-time winner. With the 2026 title, not_me and rue enter the game’s most exclusive club for the first time, as their names are added to the Aegis of Champions list for this year.

Valve closed by pointing viewers toward replays of the show on the Dota 2 YouTube channel and photo collections on Dota 2 Instagram and Flickr. For fans who missed the broadcast, those archives are the next stop; for everyone else, the record now shows a familiar power reclaiming the scene’s biggest trophy after a path that left little room for error.

“Until Next Time”

Yatoro collecting Aegis like it is shop gold, yes. But the funny part is not even him alone, it is the whole team resetting after those losses to Vision and Nigma. A lot of squads tilt after that kind of bracket mess, Spirit just kept walking down the lower bracket like it was normal pub queue.
