Blizzard Entertainment has published a broad World of Warcraft hotfix update dated October 1, 2026, touching Midnight, Classic-era modes and a long list of class and dungeon adjustments. The changes range from bug fixes to significant tuning passes for damage, healing and PvP utility.

For players, the update matters because it is not a single-system tweak. Blizzard is correcting issues that had been affecting how abilities behaved in both PvE and PvP while also continuing to rebalance several hero talent builds and specializations that were either underperforming or overperforming.

Class tuning stretches across multiple roles

Several classes received direct buffs or fixes aimed at specific problem areas. Blizzard said in the notes that some of the changes are intended to improve dungeon or raid performance, while others are meant to bring certain talent paths closer to their intended power level.

  • Hunter Survival’s Wildfire Bomb periodic damage increased by 20%, after Blizzard said a prior tuning hotfix failed to affect an untalented variant.
  • Druid Feral’s Rampant Ferocity was fixed so it no longer triggers incorrectly against a single target.
  • Monk Windwalker had a PvP-to-PvE bug fixed for Celestial Conduit and Flurry Strikes.
  • Priest Discipline gained a major dungeon boost, with Atonement healing increased by 40% when not in a raid or battleground instance.
  • Priest Shadow received single-target increases to Shadow Word: Death, Shadow Word: Madness, Mind Flay and Mind Flay: Insanity.
  • Monk Mistweaver’s overall healing was raised by 5%, while Vivify and Sheilun’s Gift both rose by 15%.
  • Paladin Protection saw all ability damage increased by 6%, and Retribution’s Templar build got a 50% boost to Hammer of Light.
  • Rogue Subtlety’s Trickster build was improved with 50% more Unseen Blade damage and 30% more Coup de Grace damage.
  • Warrior Fury and Protection both saw Mountain Thane gains, with Lightning Strike and Ground Current each increasing by 50%.
  • Druid Restoration’s healing increased by 4%, with a separate fix preventing Photosynthesis from triggering off other players’ healing-over-time effects.

Blizzard also added a note about tuning movement-slow effects in PvP. Among the listed changes, Wing Clip now reduces movement speed by 40% in PvP combat, while Improved Snaring adds another 10% reduction to it. Chrono Shift on Mage Arcane, Consecrated Ground on Paladin, and several other effects were also adjusted downward.

Death Knights, Demon Hunters and Evokers see targeted pass

Death Knights are one of the biggest beneficiaries of the update, with Blizzard splitting the work between Blood, Frost and Unholy. The notes say the team is trying to rein in Blood’s area damage while bringing its single-target output closer to the rest of the tank roster.

“San’layn is dealing quite a bit more damage in AoE than our intended target for tanks.”

To address that, Blizzard reduced all Blood ability and minion damage by 6%, cut Deadly Reach cleave effectiveness, and increased several other Blood effects such as Reaper’s Mark, Wave of Souls and Deathly Blows. Frost Death Knight, meanwhile, got help for its weaker single-target and two-target performance, including a 100% increase to Frostreaper damage and a 10% increase to Obliterate in non-PvP content.

Unholy was also tuned for raid play and for the return of a bugged build. Blizzard said it wanted to increase the spec’s damage in raids while restoring Blightfall to a viable state after bug fixes had sidelined it. To that end, Scourging now causes plagues to erupt at 65% and 100% instead of 50% and 70%, and Blightfall now deals 200% of the remaining plague damage instead of 100%. Separate PvP changes for Unholy’s San’layn tree also raise Vampiric Strike damage by 100% in PvP combat.

Demon Hunter and Evoker players also received meaningful changes. Blizzard said it wants to improve the raid and single-target performance of Annihilator hero talent builds, so Collapsing Star and Consume/Devour were buffed. For Evokers, the update broadly raises damage across several Devastation AoE abilities, including Pyre, Unbound Flame, Fire Breath, Azure Strike, Azure Sweep and Shattering Star.

“We’re making some targeted adjustments to parts of Augmentation’s kit that have lower representation in their breakdown than they should be relative to their intended strength”

That note accompanied an Augmentation-specific pass, though Blizzard did not list all of the exact changes in the excerpt provided.

Delves, dungeons and item fixes round out the patch

Beyond classes, Blizzard included several encounter and item adjustments. In The Venomous Abyss, Ula’tek’s Venomous Heart no longer sometimes melees a player, and Mother’s Wrath was fixed so it cannot be cast on a non-current target simply because that target has higher threat without crossing the threshold for a target swap.

Other encounter and activity fixes include:

  • In Shadow Enclave delve variant “Infiltrate and Ameliorate,” Oddball “Ingredient” now teleports to one of several points if dropped into the pit.
  • In Altar of Fangs and Temple of Sethraliss, abilities that were able to cast while crowd controlled were fixed.
  • The Rustbolt Jetpack received a “firmware update” that changes how it behaves in unstable decor environments.

Blizzard also adjusted several holiday and utility items. During Brewfest, items that drop from Coren Direbrew should now have the required level set to the player who receives them, while the Honorary Brewer Hand Stamp can now be purchased. In addition, several item effects were rebalanced, including lower stat gains on Gaze of the Alnseer, Vaelgor’s Final Stare and Algeth’ar Puzzle Box, alongside healing and cooldown buffs for Seed of Radiant Hope, Mycolic Medicine and Unstable Felheart Crystal.

The hotfix post says some changes took effect immediately while others may require realm restarts, and Blizzard added that more hotfixes could follow as additional issues are addressed. For now, the update continues a familiar pattern for World of Warcraft: broad post-launch tuning aimed at keeping classes, hero talents and dungeon content in line with the studio’s targets.

6% flat on prot and 50% on Templar Hammer of Light feels like Blizzard is just throwing numbers at the wall. That kind of buff can swing a whole tank or ret build overnight.
