Blizzard has opened World of Warcraft’s Hallow’s End event for 2026. The holiday runs from October 19 through November 2 and brings back trick-or-treating, the Headless Horseman, and a set of neighborhood activities built around candy, cleanup, and haunted decorations.
In Blizzard’s description, Hallow’s End celebrates the Forsaken’s break from the Scourge, with innkeepers across Azeroth handing out treats and tricks to anyone who joins the festivities. Players can trick-or-treat in inns throughout Northrend, Pandaria, Outland, Draenor, the Broken Isles, the Dragon Isles, Khaz Algar, and Quel’Thalas, then trade the currency they collect for holiday rewards. Blizzard also says new Candy Buckets have been added throughout Quel’Thalas.
Neighborhoods bring random themes and daily quests
This year’s event leans on the neighborhood system. At the start of Hallow’s End, each neighborhood is randomly assigned a theme, complete with cosmetic changes, candies, and daily quests from Nomi. Blizzard says players can start the chain by picking up the A Haunted Home breadcrumb quest from a Holiday Enthusiast, who sends them to Yin in the neighborhood.
Once there, players can trade Neighborhood Candy for Tricky Treats. Exchange rates vary between neighborhoods, vendors set a new rate each day, and Blizzard advises talking to them to find the best deal.
For 15 minutes every hour, players can trick-or-treat around Founder’s Point and Razorwind Shores, collecting candy from buckets that appear outside occupied player plots. Blizzard says gathering 10 Neighborhood Candy from those buckets awards XP, 2 Tricky Treats, and 3 Neighborhood Candy.
Each neighborhood also has a visible Neighborhood Contribution bar that residents can fill by taking part in quests and activities during Hallow’s End. As the bar fills, festive decorations appear around the neighborhood, and more lootable candies show up near the Candy Bucket in the Neighborhood Holiday Hub. Discarded Wrappers are scattered around those buckets, and cleaning them up helps the neighborhood contribution climb. Blizzard says the more the bar fills, the more Haunted Candies can be looted from the neighborhood Candy Bucket. Players can also visit other neighborhoods and clean up their wrappers there.
A portal near Yin and the Wickerman leads to a holiday hub where players can complete a daily quest and add 10 candies to the piñata. Once it is full, they can either start the fight right away or save it for later. Choosing Start Whacking begins a one-minute countdown before the candy break begins. Blizzard says players can whack the piñata to knock out Neighborhood Candy, then collect it and trade the bonus candy for Tricky Treats at the Tricky Treat Traders.
Ghosts, webs, and a Shade in the Holiday Hub
Blizzard has added several neighborhood tasks tied to the haunted theme. Players can equip quest-earned Ghost Gear, or grab nearby gear, to hunt ghosts before they escape. Each catch goes into the Ghost Tank. Once it is full, the tank summons a Shade of Seabreaker Skoloth in the Holiday Hub. The group then has to pull it into a magic portal to reveal a Treasure Chest filled with Tricky Treats and Neighborhood Candy.
The Headless Horseman can interfere with that activity, too. Blizzard says he may appear and summon another Shade somewhere else in the neighborhood.
Players can also use Webspinner Egg Sacs to transform into a spider for 3 minutes, then spin up to 10 webs around the neighborhood. Blizzard says the webs help the area look more spooky. Ending the spider form early is allowed, but doing so starts a 15-minute cooldown.
The announcement says each neighborhood—Drustvar, Duskwood, or Felwood—gets one of three random themes. Near Yin and the Wickerman, the holiday hub gives players another place to complete a daily quest and add to the piñata, so the event can feel different depending on which neighborhood theme is active.
Holiday vendors, décor, and achievements
Hallow’s End also brings back holiday vendors with décor and cosmetics. Blizzard says Jolli Maxiboom in Razorwind Shores and Holly Twinklebright in Founder’s Point sell eerie home décor for gold. Echo in Undercity and Jack in Stormwind sell themed wares for Tricky Treats or gold.
The event’s reward list includes both achievements and returning items:
- Tricks and Treats of Midnight — use candy buckets in the Midnight Zones
- Sweet Tooth — complete the Duskwood, Felwood, and Drustvar achievements
- Duskwood Caramel Crafter — complete all 3 candy quests from a Duskwood-themed neighborhood
- Felwood Fudge Bite Former — complete all 3 candy quests from a Felwood-themed neighborhood
- Drustvar Choc-O-Drop Designer — complete all 3 candy quests from a Drustvar-themed neighborhood
- A Frightening Friend — find Pepe wearing his spooky scarecrow costume
- I Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost — collect and deposit 10 ghosts in any neighborhood
Blizzard also says Hallow’s End vendors sell festive goods for Tricky Treats, including pieces of the Patched Harvest Golem Transmog set that previously dropped from the Headless Horseman encounter. The list includes the Head, Pauldrons, Pants, Gloves, Chest, Boots, and Belt.
Other purchasable items include the Horseman’s Ghoulish Great Blade, Horseman’s Ghoulish Blade, and Horseman’s Ghoulish Bulwark, each listed at 100 Tricky Treats. Blizzard also lists Ensemble: Prowler’s Faded Headgear with mask among the available rewards.
One of the event’s signature lines returns as well. Blizzard quotes the Headless Horseman: “Prepare yourselves, the bells have tolled! Shelter your weak, your young, and your old! Each of you shall pay the final sum. Cry for mercy, the reckoning has come!”
The Horseman’s daily encounter remains available for characters level 10-80 through the Dungeon Finder. Blizzard says players have a chance to receive the Headless Horseman’s Ghoulish Charger skyriding mount, and one piece of the Headless Horseman’s Ghoulish Armor transmog set is guaranteed each day, with no duplicates.
Players who want to visit older Undercity can still speak with Zidormi in Tirisfal Glades to pass through the mists of time. Blizzard points to that option for anyone who wants to see the city as it was while the holiday is active.
No duplicate Ghoulish Armor is huge
Not really. Guaranteed one piece a day sounds like Blizzard trying to make the carrot look shinier while the stick stays exactly where it was.
You’d rather they leave the set fully RNG and call it content? That sounds like the worse deal to me.
Fair enough, we’ll see. I’m just allergic to anything that smells like a ‘better grind’ in disguise.
I farmed Horseman for years and still never got the mount, so the guaranteed armour piece is honestly the first thing here that makes me want to log in. No duplicates means at least the daily run feels a bit less cursed.
mount pain lol
Classic rng tax 🙂
old undercity back is nice
It is only for nostalgia. Most players will just use Zidormi once and leave again, but I get why they keep it there for the holiday.
