Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will let Jason and Lucia listen to radio stations and podcasts while on foot, using headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones. The same audio can still play in vehicles, but the new setup means the series’ broadcast parody is no longer tied only to cars.
“For the first time ever, Grand Theft Auto 6 introduces a series of on-demand podcasts for Jason and Lucia to experience beyond Leonida’s terrestrial radio,” Rockstar wrote on its website, “with both radio and podcasts available to listen to in vehicles and on foot through newly introduced headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones.”
The feature is part of Rockstar’s latest music rollout for the game, which also details six stations coming to Leonida. The company says the line-up spans Latin, country, African music, metal, pop, and rap and hip-hop, with each station hosted by well-known real-world artists and previewed through the developer’s music page. According to Rolling Stone, the hosts include several famous singers and performers.
Rockstar’s station list breaks down like this: Cocoteo FM is a Latin music channel hosted by Bad Bunny and RaiNao, listed in-game as El Martillo and La Gata. Back Country Radio is a country station hosted by Lana Del Rey, Morgan Wallen and Jeremy Dufrene, with the in-game names MW and Delta Dawne. AfroBank FM is an African music channel hosted by Burna Boy and DJ Palms Trax, known in-game as Burna and Palmsy.
The other three stations are The Chamber 106.6, a metal channel hosted by Kerry King and Tom Araya as DJ Kerry and DJ Tom; Flash FM, a pop station hosted by Robyn and Alex Consani, listed simply as Robyn and Alex; and Dirty South Classics, a rap and hip-hop station hosted by Trina and Trick Daddy, listed in-game simply as Trina and Trick.
Music is a bigger part of GTA 6’s world
Rockstar’s announcement goes beyond the station names. Its music page also says Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album will feature 34 original tracks. The company says the album captures the energy of Vice City and Leonida, and it has already put select singles on the page for listening.
The posted singles include “That’s It (feat. Future & Metro Boomin)” by Yung Lean, “Sexy Magic” by CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, Pink Pantheress, Fred again.. & Etienne de Crécy, “Last Thing You Need” by Morgan Wallen, and “Bright Lights, Big City” by Keith Richards. Rockstar is presenting the game’s music as a broad package: stations, an album and podcasts all tied to the same setting.
That approach fits Rockstar’s long habit of making radio one of the defining features of Grand Theft Auto. What changes in GTA 6 is how far the music can follow the player. Jason and Lucia will not need to stay in a car to keep listening, and Rockstar has made the connection explicit by building the system around smartphones, headphones and earbuds.
The podcast addition is the other major shift. Rockstar did not name any specific shows, but it did confirm that the format will be on demand, so the characters can listen whenever they want instead of waiting for a station rotation. That broadens the audio side of the game beyond music and talk radio while keeping it inside the same in-world media network.
New stations arrive as leak chatter continues
Eurogamer’s report on the announcement noted that it landed alongside another alleged GTA 6 gameplay leak posted by CyberLeek. The footage reportedly showed nudity, dirt-biking and a developer menu. Eurogamer said CyberLeek’s activity had seemed to stop after Take-Two took legal action to track them down, but the latest clip suggests the account is still active.
The broader run-up to GTA 6 remains crowded for Rockstar. The game is still due on 19th November, and the company continues to deal with an employment tribunal case in Scotland linked to alleged union busting. Music news, leak reports and legal disputes have all landed while the release date gets closer.
Rockstar’s latest reveal also sits alongside earlier bits of GTA 6 coverage that have kept the game in the headlines. GAMER2GO previously reported on the Florida research trips Rockstar made with cops and gang members, the building blocks of development described in eight-week milestones and NPC work, and the fresh debate around the game’s $80 price. Those details now sit next to a music system that will let players move through Leonida with a radio station or podcast in their ears.
The reveal leaves some things unanswered, including how the headphones and earbuds will be equipped in play and how much control players will have over podcasts versus music. Rockstar has not gone into that level of detail yet, but it has confirmed the core change: Grand Theft Auto 6 is not treating audio as something that only belongs to the car anymore.
podcasts on foot is kinda wild
do you mean the podcasts part, or just that it works on foot? because the stations coming to six genres is the bigger bit for me.
six stations still feels thin lol
The headphones thing is bigger than the stations to me. If I can walk around Leonida and keep a podcast going, that’s the first time GTA audio feels like it follows the player instead of the other way around.
it’s still just radio with extra steps
Not really, because radio in GTA used to die the second you stepped out of the car. This at least makes the world feel less glued to vehicles.
sure but i bet it’s locked behind menus anyway
anyone else think the album with 34 original tracks is the sleeper detail here?
