Fortnite players can now win a Treasure Hunters prize from chests that makes the Item Shop free for 14 days, according to Dexerto. The reward is called the Pirate Shop, and it arrived on November 1 with the Treasure Hunters update and the game’s One Piece crossover. That puts it right at the center of Fortnite’s latest mini-season rollout, rather than as a side reward tucked away in a limited challenge track.
The prize can roll from chests opened in Battle Royale. Dataminer HYPEX found that the Pirate Shop sits in the Treasure Hunt prize pool every week, which means it is not tied to a one-time event chest or a single login bonus. According to HYPEX, winners get two activations: one for 2026 and one for 2027. Each activation opens a separate 14-day claim period for Item Shop purchases made with V-Bucks.
How the two free Item Shop windows work
Once activated, the Pirate Shop lets players claim everything sold for V-Bucks in the Item Shop for free during a 14-day window. The timer does not begin when the reward drops. It starts only when the player presses activate, so the window can be saved instead of being spent immediately after the chest opens.
HYPEX said the 2026 activation can be used until December 15, 2026. The 2027 activation runs from January 1 to December 15, 2027. In practice, that gives winners two separate chances to time the reward around different shop rotations, event cosmetics, or new crossover items. It does not create one long continuous free period across both years.
The reward does have limits. Real-money offers, gifting, and Battle Pass levels and rewards are not included, and the reward cannot be transferred to another account. Players can also claim only one free Sidekick they do not already own. That means the Pirate Shop covers a large part of the Item Shop, but not every monetized feature tied to Fortnite’s store.
One player who landed the reward said the claimed items remain permanent after the free period ends, and that Jam Tracks are included. That means the 14-day limit applies to the claim window, not to ownership. Once a player uses the Pirate Shop on a listed item, it stays in the locker after the activation expires.
“Some people asked me to show on replays how the chest looked and it looked like any other chest, so I guess it’s really random,” they wrote.
That detail matters because there is no special visual marker for the chest reward in the replay footage the player shared. In other words, the Pirate Shop appears to be another possible chest roll rather than something Fortnite telegraphs with a unique animation or pickup effect. The result can look ordinary even when it turns into one of the rarest prizes in the current pool.
Epic has not said how rare it is
Epic Games has not shared the odds of landing the Pirate Shop, and HYPEX said it is not yet clear whether there is a cap on how often it can drop. The datamine confirms that the reward is in the weekly pool, but it does not reveal how frequently players should expect to see it. That leaves its exact rarity unknown, even though the reward itself is now visible to players who open the right chest.
At least one player has already shown the prize in use. X user snowslept said it came from a chest on their third match, in a normal Solos lobby, after opening around 150 chests. Their post also showed that the reward can appear after a long stretch of regular chest opens rather than only during a special playlist or a clearly flagged bonus event.
Snowslept later said the entire next 14 Item Shops could be claimed for free after activation, and that another token would be available in 2026. Their posts also confirmed that the item behaves like a standard reward once it is activated, despite how unusual the prize is compared with normal chest loot. The player’s reaction made clear that the reward is both real and easy to miss when it drops.
The shop restriction is broad enough that the Pirate Shop can cover a wide range of cosmetics, emotes, and other V-Bucks items, but the exclusions keep it from replacing every purchase option in Fortnite. It does not cover real-money bundles, it does not change Battle Pass progression, and it does not extend to gifting. For players hoping to use it on a very specific purchase, the exact item type still matters.
Treasure Hunters keeps adding new faces each week
The timing could matter for anyone who wins the Pirate Shop because Treasure Hunters is bringing in new arrivals each week. Leaked details of the mini-season’s Adventure menu, shared by ShiinaBR, show A$AP Rocky and the Straw Hats leading week one. Lil Uzi Vert, Cuddle Team Leader, and Buggy are listed for week two, which gives the early part of the season a different shop mix from later weeks.
Hatsune Miku and Kasane Teto take over the Rubber Resort in week three, followed by Oscar in week four. Week five brings back fan-favorite weapons in the final hunt. That weekly structure gives the Pirate Shop two useful timing choices: activate it early for the first batch of arrivals, or hold it until a later week when a specific cosmetic or crossover item is in the shop.
The leaked Adventure menu also suggests Treasure Hunters is building around a rotating schedule rather than a single launch beat. A player who wins the Pirate Shop could wait for a week that lines up with a preferred shop refresh, then press activate and use the full 14-day window across multiple resets. Because the timer only starts on activation, the reward can be saved until the moment it has the most value.
Even so, the main unknown is still the drop rate. HYPEX’s findings show where the Pirate Shop sits in the reward structure and when its activations can be used, but Epic has not explained how often it appears or how many players should expect to find it. Until that changes, the Pirate Shop is confirmed, its rules are visible, and its rarity is still a mystery to most players opening chests in Battle Royale.
14 days is wild, but the real catch is the timer only starts when you hit activate. Epic basically turned a chest drop into a FOMO bomb.
I don’t see the problem. If you can save it until the shop has something you actually want, that’s better than some random one-day voucher. The limit to V-Bucks items and no gifting keeps it from being completely busted. Most people won’t even see it drop anyway, so this feels more like a nice bonus than a system to game.
that’s exactly why it’s annoying though – they made the good part depend on luck, then wrapped it in expiry pressure.
fair enough, we’ll see
Two activations is the bit that got me. One for 2026 and one for 2027 means you can really wait for a skin or Jam Track you want instead of panic using it.
if you ever get it
yeah, but the article says it is in the weekly pool, so some people will hit it eventually. luck is the whole game with chest rewards.
The weirdest part is no special chest look at all. If it really just looks like a normal chest, people are going to walk past the rarest reward in the pool without knowing.
That is kind of the point though. If it glowed or made noise, everyone would hunt the same chests and the drop would get spammed on clips in an hour.
maybe, but it still feels sneaky
Sneaky is fine. Fortnite has always done hidden stuff in loot, and half the fun is that weird moment when a normal chest drops something stupidly rare. If they put a neon sign on it, everyone would farm the same route and complain the reward got nerfed. Let the mystery exist for once.
Mystery is fine, hidden monetization nonsense isnt
does this cover jam tracks too?
apparently yeah, which is the gross part
Yeah that’s why I’m asking. If Jam Tracks are in, that’s actually way more useful than just cosmetics. Are you mad because it’s free, or because Epic hid the useful part behind a chest roll?
both, obviously
The part about claimed items staying in the locker is at least sane. I expected them to vanish after 14 days, because games love that kind of nonsense.
Do you mean the locker keeps the item forever, or just the right to claim it during the 14 days? The wording sounds like once you use the reward on a listed item, it stays owned after the window ends. If so, that’s the only part of this that feels fair. Otherwise it would just be a rental with extra steps.
A normal Solos lobby after around 150 chests is such a weird number. It sounds real, but also like the kind of grind I would never want to do on purpose.
nah, 150 chests sounds exactly like Fortnite to me. people grind that much for a random skin all the time.
Maybe for the super dedicated crowd, but that is still a huge time sink for one chest reward. My point was more that the drop being tied to ordinary chest opens makes it feel inaccessible for normal players, especially if the odds stay secret. I can see why collectors would chase it, I just wouldn’t call that a healthy loop.
